3 Sample Vehicle Trailer Types

Information About Travel Trailers
Travel trailers are great ways to go on long trips and take a piece of home living with you.

Popup campers are very popular because most mid-sized cars can pull them with the right hitch attachment. They are small and create little wind resistance. Some of the most popular popup travel trailers include the Coleman Bayside and the BMW Air Camper.

For larger vehicles there are double-axle campers that require at least mid-sized pickup trucks, and some that even require a three quarter ton or heavier vehicle for towing. In some cases travel trailers may be designed to be pulled by huge recreational vehicles. You have probably seen the ones that can mount the front tires of a vehicle for towing.

Information About Motorcycle Trailers
Motorcycle trailers are of course used for transporting motorcycles behind at least a small pickup truck or large car. These can be purchased in enclosed varieties and open varieties. There are large motorcycle trailers that can hold several motorcycles and that require a large pickup truck for towing. The more deluxe the motorcycle trailers are, the easier they tend to be to use. Some deluxe models include special ramps and tie downs to make loading your motorcycles securely take less than five minutes.

Of course, another usage of the term motorcycle trailers could be trailers that are pulled by motorcycles. As mentioned above, these do exist but are not all that common. They are usually custom designed to match the style and shape of the motorcycles intended to pull them. This allow them to look better and travel better. Single-wheeled, motorcycle-pulled trailers, such as the popular Unigo or Pav, are designed with a universal joint to make the trailer lean into turns with the motorcycle for easy control. Generally the motorcycle manufacturer will have a disclaimer recommending you don't use trailers because of how dangerous motorcycles are and the high liability the manufacturer might face if you have an accident because of an incapability with the particular motorcycle trailer being towed. For that reason we also don't recommend using them.

Information About Semi Trailers
Semi trailers normally lack front axles because they rest on either a dolly or the road tractor of the semi pulling the trailer. Semi trailers typically have landing gear, or legs, that can be lowered to support the trailers when they are not attached to a semi vehicle. In the United States semi trailers must not exceed 53' on federal highways without a permit. In states and areas where multiple trailers are allowed, it is not uncommon to see a single vehicle hauling multiple semi trailers. You already know all of the different designs they have because you likely see them very regularly.
